“To limit the limitless limits,
I exile myself to a place
Where I am but a grain of sand
Hiding in the curve of this world.”
"Borders" brings the collaboration of Estonian and French musicians to the stage of the Põlva Cultural Centre. The central theme of this new work by French composer and guitarist David Chevallier, set to lyrics by Estonian singer Anett Tamm, is the border - a place where one can move from one universe to another, from one culture to another, where one can face the unknown or confront oneself. The meaning of the border changes depending on whether you are a tourist, an intruder or an immigrant. "Borders" opens up the border as a multilayered physical and cognitive concept through different perspectives: exile, discovery, migration, encounter, experimentation, friction...
The special concert at the Põlva Cultural Centre will be the highlight of David Chevallier Trio and Anett Tamm's "Borders" Autumn 2024 tour in France, Finland and the Baltics, for the ensemble will be joined by an Estonian chamber choir, revealed in the beginning of 2024. The concert will premiere new works together with the choir, written especially for the evening, inspired by contemporary and past stories from Estonia as a historically contested border state.
The concert is a part of the European Capital of Culture Tartu 2024 main programme and is organised in collaboration with Vapaat äänet (Finland) and Uus Kontsert. Supported by: Tartu 2024, the French Institute in Estonia and the Cultural Endowment of Estonia.
