Description
Astrid Lindgreni muinasjutt
Fairy Tale
"Now I will tell you about my brother. My brother is Jonathan Lionheart – and it is him I want to tell you about. To me, it all feels almost like a fairy tale, and a little bit like a ghost story too, but still it is true from beginning to end. Even though no one knows it except me and Jonathan."
With these words begins one of Astrid Lindgren’s many beloved books across generations. This grand fantasy tale, published in 1973, belongs to the more mature period of the world-famous children’s author, already known for Pippi, Karlsson-on-the-Roof, and Rasmus the Vagabond. In this phase, her works began to include not only adventure and humor, but also a fair amount of melancholy and seriousness. That’s why The Brothers Lionheart may be one of Lindgren’s most timeless works in terms of its intended audience.
Younger theatre-goers can immerse themselves in the colorful and thrilling story set in Nangiyala, where the Rose Valley is liberated from the oppression of the evil tyrant Tengil. Older viewers may reflect on themes of friendship, brotherhood, nobility, and the transience of human life.
The production is in two acts.
Premiere at Vanemuine Grand Building on February 5, 2022.
