Description

The University of Tartu Museum will open the Science Town on Toome Hill again this summer. In the ten buildings of the town, visitors can familiarise themselves with the activities of different fields of research.

For example, they can calculate the reproduction number R for the infection rate in the town hospital, learn to write their name in binary code in the schoolhouse, measure the age of the lime tree at the monument dedicated to urban trees, and try out the various ways of greeting of different cultures in the culture house.

Participants in the Science Town game can fill in an answer sheet and get reduced admission to the University of Tartu Museum, Old Obervatory and University of Tartu Art Museum.

On the opening day, 21 July, all who complete the answer sheet will get a gift from the museum shop. The completed answer sheets can be submitted until the museum closes at 18.

Answer sheets can be collected from the museum gift shop. It is also possible to respond electronically on the website of the University of Tartu Museum.

The Science Town has two centres on Toome Hill: the surroundings of the Old Observatory, and the Museum and the ruins of Tartu Cathedral.

The Science Town on Toome Hill has helped to enliven the summers of Tartu with science since 2011. The Science Town offers various exciting activities in the summer for townspeople and guests, aiming to arouse interest in science in young visitors and to enable adults to get acquainted with both the past and present achievements of Estonian science.

The Science Town will be open until 30 September.
