For just three concerts, the acclaimed M4GNET String Quartet temporarily transforms into a string trio, exploring the rich possibilities of this fascinating genre. There is also a particularly happy reason behind the idea: the quartet’s irreplaceable member Katariina Maria is taking a short break on maternity leave.

Performing as MAGN3T, the ensemble presents a carefully curated selection of string trios by Franz Schubert, Rasmus Puur and Ludwig van Beethoven. The three musicians will perform a three-work programme in three venues that have become especially dear to the ensemble: Kärdla Church of St John the Baptist, the German Cultural Institute in Tartu, and Mustamäe Mary Magdalene Church.

ABOUT THE ENSEMBLE
M4GNET String Quartet is an acclaimed and active chamber ensemble bringing together four outstanding string players: Robert Traksmann (violin), Katariina Maria Kits-Reimal (violin), Mart Kuusma (viola) and Siluan Hirvoja (cello). The four distinguished musicians formed the quartet in early 2021 with the aim of offering vivid and compelling interpretations of the chamber music classics, while also introducing audiences to lesser-known repertoire and recent works by Estonian composers.

M4GNET String Quartet has appeared at numerous festivals, including the Pärnu Music Festival, Tallinn Chamber Music Festival, the annual TubIN Festival in Tartu, Haapsalu Early Music Festival, and the acclaimed contemporary music festival Estonian Music Days. Last November, the ensemble performed in the historic university city of Oxford as part of a festival dedicated to Arvo Pärt. This spring, M4GNET will present recent Estonian works at Estonian Music Days in both Tallinn and Tartu.

The ensemble has been selected to participate in the prestigious international programme Le Dimore del Quartetto, through which M4GNET also gives concerts outside Estonia each year. The quartet has taken part in masterclasses with leading figures in the world of string quartet performance, including Simone Gramaglia (Quartetto di Cremona), Marc Danel (Quatuor Danel) and Peter Jarůšek (Pavel Haas Quartet).
