Kirill Lissijenko’s ambitious project of presenting the complete piano works of Frédéric Chopin reaches its ninth concert in September. The programme features key works from Chopin’s late creative period, in which his Romantic expressiveness, poetic imagination, and formal innovation attain extraordinary depth.
Frédéric Chopin (1810–1849) was a Polish composer and pianist best known for his lyrical and emotionally rich piano music. He spent much of his life in France, where the majority of his works were composed. As a pianist, Chopin performed primarily in salons, avoiding large concert halls. His music combines influences from Polish folk traditions with the expressive language of the Romantic era. Beautiful melodies, intricate harmonies, and subtle dynamics make his compositions both technically demanding and deeply moving. Although his life was cut short by ill health, Chopin left an indelible mark on music as one of the most influential composers of the nineteenth century.
Kirill Lissijenko began studying piano at the age of eleven and completed music school in just four years. He studied at the Georg Ots Music School under Ia Remmel and Ralf Taal. In 2010, he graduated from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, where his teachers included Prof. Lilian Semper, Irina Zahharenkova, and Age Juurikas. In 2016, he earned a master’s degree from the Sibelius Academy in the piano class of Hui-Ying Liu-Tawaststjerna and also completed a master’s degree in chamber music at the Estonian Academy under the supervision of Matti Reimann.
He has further refined his artistry through masterclasses with distinguished pianists including Tamas Ungar, Rolf Plagge, Cyprien Katsaris, and Daniel Pollack. In 2015, Kirill was awarded second prize at the international Alion Baltic Competition. He performs regularly in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Italy, and Russia as both a soloist and chamber musician. His chamber music partners have included Nadia Kurem, Sigrid Kuulmann, Silvia Ilves, Aare Tammesalu, Kristina Kriit, Toomas Vavilov, Neeme Ots, Andre Cebrian Garea, and Maria Veretenina.
Kirill has studied harpsichord with Reinut Tepp and Imbi Tarum, performed as a member of a Baroque ensemble, and worked as a piano accompanist in the string department of the Georg Ots Music School. As a soloist, he has appeared with the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre Symphony Orchestra under Paul Mägi and with the Master Orchestra in Italy under Sergio Baietta. He is also the artistic director of the MozartFest festival in Tallinn.
