What happens when young people who speak different languages, transparent plastic sheets and the ocean we all share end up in the same space?
"The Crossing" is a physical theatre project by Belgian director and choreographer Jordi L. Vidal that explores our relationship with plastic and pollution. In Tartu, he is creating it together with 14–18-year-olds from different linguistic and cultural backgrounds. Over the course of a week, they have improvised, moved and searched for a common language together. It is the language of the body and emotions, and it needs no translation.
The result is a visually striking performance in the city space, with a set that keeps changing throughout the show. Both the performers and the materials are in motion. "The Crossing" is about crossing boundaries between people and nature, between languages and cultures, and about what connects us all. It is also a participatory performance, so be ready to join in!
Jordi L. Vidal has created more than 40 productions and given more than 600 performances around the world. His work brings together dance, circus, marionettes and object theatre. "The Crossing" has travelled to Poland, Belgium, Portugal and Romania, and now it comes to Tartu.
"The Crossing" is part of A-festival, a small international theatre festival.
There is no language barrier here, because everyone speaks the language of movement.
