Description
On Tuesday, October 13, at 6 PM, the exhibition "Endless Stories" opens at Jakobi Gallery, featuring embroideries by Annika Kiidron and bookbindings by Kerli Jõgi.
"Endless Stories" is a exhibition by Kerli Jõgi and Annika Kiidron—artists who share both a studio and a creative mindset—in which they explore storytelling and the various ways stories remain unfinished. As a fashion designer, Kiidron works daily with patterns and embroidery, telling stories of nostalgia, childhood, and personal moments through her work. A personal touch is also present in Jõgi’s work, which features plants from her urban garden—a place where she would happily spend every spare moment. While Kiidron works with textiles, creating densely worked surfaces from thread, Jõgi works with paper, translating stories onto the page through lines and textured surfaces.
The exhibition displays two-dimensional embroidered images alongside three-dimensional, free-form bookbindings. The works reveal points of intersection between the two artists' practices, demonstrating that bookbindings and embroidery—paper and textile—are not far removed from one another; instead, they come together in the exhibition just as naturally as they do in the artists' shared studio. The exhibition also brings to fruition various unfinished projects and ideas that had previously been set aside.
The exhibition remains open until November 13.
Kerli Jõgi is a bookbinder of the younger generation whose work combines simple design elements with experimental binding structures. Jõgi treats the book as an art object and raises questions about the very nature of what a book can be. Her recent solo exhibition, "On Vacation, Will Reply ASAP" (2025), showcased sketch-like and free-form bookbindings.
In 2022, her artist’s binding (for Joseph Kessel’s novel The Lion) received the Raymond Devos Foundation Special Prize at the Biennales Mondiales de la Reliure d’Art (World Bookbinding Biennial) in France, and in 2023, her work "1 m² of Hibernation" was selected for the traveling exhibition of the International Vilnius Bookbinding Triennial.
Annika Kiidron is a socially critical artist and designer whose work is characterized by the upcycling of found objects and waste materials. Her practice explores the relationships between matter, humanity, and society, as well as the shifting nature of value and various social and personal themes. With a background in textile and fashion art, Kiidron combines diverse media and techniques in her work.
Kiidron holds a degree in textile art from Pallas University of Applied Sciences and a master’s degree in design and applied arts from the Estonian Academy of Arts; she has also pursued further studies in Norway, Israel, Netherlands, Finland, and Hong Kong. Notable accolades include the NextGen Awards Première Vision Grand Jury Prize (2020), victories at the ERKI Fashion Show (2018 and 2020), a win at Mood-Performance-Tants (2018), the Grand Prize at the Estonian Fashion Festival (2020), and the Silver Needle award (2021).
