During this two-day course, we will explore the technique of linocut relief printing – covering both monochrome printing and the possibilities of colour printing using multiple plates. If you wish, you can also try printing in multiple colours from a single plate and experiment with different linework and surface treatments to convey form and style in your work.
Location: TYPA centre, Kastani 48f, Tartu
Instructor: Regina-Mareta Soonsein
Time: October 17th & October 24th 2026
12PM-17PM on both days (2 x 5h)
Price: 95/80€*
*Discount applies to students up to age of 26, retired persons, persons with disability.
On the first day, we will work on adapting sketches to suit the technique and on cutting the printing plates. On the second day of the course, we will focus on printing the work on a relief press. By the end of the course, each participant will have produced at least one small series of graphic prints in multiple colours. If they wish, participants can also print on tote bags, which can be purchased separately from TYPA, creating a memorable souvenir for themselves.
The course takes place on the 17th and 24th of October from 12.00-17.00 on both days.
Important! Before the course, participants are advised to prepare a design of their choice in advance, with maximum dimensions of 25 cm x 30 cm. The design can be either a hand-drawn original or based on a photograph. In the latter case, it is advisable to convert it to black and white beforehand and use a stencil filter or other stylization techniques to create contrast between colours and surfaces. Assistance with this can also be provided on the day if required.
About the Artist
Regina-Mareta Soonsein (1991) graduated from the Pallas University of Applied Sciences in 2019 with a degree in painting, but has focused her creative work on linocuts. This has developed into a highly distinctive and recognisable style, in which she seamlessly blends this traditionally monumental printmaking technique with the art of painting. Her artistic approach encompasses the subjectification of the line, as well as themes of fragmentation, inner experiences and archetypes. She has taken part in group exhibitions and held solo exhibitions since 2017. She has won the Biafarin Award at the international NordArt exhibition in Germany, and the Wiiralt Prize for the public’s favourite.
