The exhibition’s title is a short poetic image: “what can be carried through a sieve // need not be lined with moss” from Maryliis Teinfeldt-Grins’s new collection of poetry. Placed within the context of the exhibition, this excerpt takes on a form that speaks of the transmission of something fragile, difficult to hold together in one piece and fleeting.

The glass and painting artist Katrin Tukmann and the textile artist Maryliis Teinfeldt-Grins have presented a selection of their designs for the exhibition. The artists’ creative dialogue moves between the visible and the perceptible, between the material and imagination, and between the conventional and personal experience. Their different materials and working methods do not merge but remain sensitive to one another: at times side by side, at times facing each other, and at times reaching into one another.

“A sketch is, in itself, something in between: it is not yet a finished work, but neither is it merely an idea. It is an attempt to give something form, to preserve something and to shape it into something in future work. Placing the two artists’ sketches side by side makes this in-between state visible. Here, the viewer is presented not only with finished results, but also with a space for thinking, searching, making mistakes and exploring possibilities,” explain the artists.

Katrin Tukmann (b. 1969) is a glass and painting artist whose work in painting has moved towards the creation of abstract wholes, which could be described as the mapping of thoughts onto landscapes of the soul.

Maryliis Teinfeldt-Grins (b. 1993) is an artist and researcher. Her creative work focuses on the connections between memory, landscape and language, with a particular emphasis on the parishes of Kadrina and Ambla.
