From November 12–15, Tartu will host the 11th international folk festival Tartu Folk, bringing together folklore communities from the Baltic and Nordic countries. Over the course of four days, the festival will feature concerts, workshops, dance clubs, and communal heritage celebrations. In total, nearly 30 groups will perform at the festival.

On Saturday, November 14, a great heritage celebration will take place at the Vanemuine Concert Hall. The day will begin with a festive gala concert featuring headliners and Tartu folk dance groups. The concert will be followed by a lively dance club showcasing dances from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and the Faroe Islands. The Tartu ensemble Jumšan Gur will bring to the dance enthusiasts the spirited rhythms of the Udmurts. At the same time, on the café stage at the Vanemuine Concert Hall, everyone can enjoy musical performances by small folk music ensembles. The evening will conclude with the Ethno Disco led by renowned choreographers Eveliina and Mitja Pilke from Finland.

The guest traveling the farthest—the folk dance group Ung í Dansi—will arrive at the festival from the Faroe Islands, 1900 kilometers away, bringing the traditional circle dances and fairy-tale ballads from their homeland. Dolija, a youth group from Vilnius’s Žvėrynas Gymnasium, will captivate the audience with their knowledge of folklore and youthful spirit. Latvia will be represented by Skandinieki, one of the country’s oldest and most legendary folklore communities, led by musician Julgī Stalte, who has Livonian roots. The Muhu folklore group Uijee, awarded the title of Folklore Group of the Year, will showcase the traditions of the Estonian islands. Folk music and dances from Southern Estonia will be presented by the festival’s organizer, the Maatasa Folklore Club.
