Description
From November 12–15, Tartu will host the 11th international folk festival Tartu Folk, bringing together folklore communities from the Baltic and Nordic countries. Over the course of four days, the festival will feature concerts, workshops, dance clubs, and communal heritage celebrations. In total, nearly 30 groups will perform at the festival.
On Sunday, November 15, the festival’s closing concert will take place in the bridge area of the Estonian National Museum. Headlining the festival will be Ung í Dansi from the Faroe Islands, Skandinieki from Latvia, Dolija from Lithuania, Uijee from Muhu, and Maatasa from Southern Estonia. Structured as a webcast, the concert will feature interludes showcasing the groups’ hometowns and histories, giving the audience a chance to learn more about the culture and traditions of different regions.
The theme of this year’s Closing Concert will be mythological creatures, introducing characters with supernatural abilities from various peoples and the stories associated with them. The concert will be hosted by Tuule Pihlap from the Maatasa Folklore Club and Kaarel Pogga from the Vanemuine Theater. The Tartu Folk closing concert will be streamed live on the festival’s YouTube channel.
Tartu Folk festival will bring plenty of joy and warmth to the dark November autumn, offering the opportunity to experience heritage culture as a listener, a spectator, or an active participant.
