Data Science Seminar “Energy: Powering the Future with Data and AI” will take place 22 September from 16:15 at Delta auditorium 1037.
As more electricity comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar, electricity production becomes increasingly dependent on weather conditions. At the same time, demand is rising due to the electrification of transport, heating and industry, as well as the growing energy needs of AI and data centres. Electricity markets are also evolving, allowing a wider range of actors to participate in supplying, consuming and trading electricity.
Together, these developments make electricity systems more dynamic and introduce new sources of uncertainty. How can these increasingly complex systems remain reliable and affordable? How can data and AI help different actors better understand, predict and manage these dynamics? What open problems remain, and which skills are needed to address them? These questions will guide the seminar as speakers explore how probabilistic forecasting, digital twins, virtual power plants, automated electricity trading and dynamic line ratings are being developed and applied in practice.
Speakers:
Donatas Braziulis, Vice President of Partnerships at Markedroid
Siim Meeliste, Business Development Manager at STACC
