Toms Rudzinskis band presents ABYSS album

Description

Toms Rudzinskis is one of Baltic's leading jazz saxophonists and composers. His latest concept album ABYSS brings together some of the most exciting and fresh faces in European jazz.

A graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, recipient of numerous jazz awards, “Burghausen Jazz competition” and “Dutch Jazz Competition” Grand Prix to name a few, well-respected soloist and sideman, Toms Rudzinskis is recognised for his ability to blend
tradition with complex, intellectual, and captivating musicianship.

Having stirred up the local jazz scene, Rudzinskis' recorded ABYSS with his Berlin-based quintet at the Soundfabrik Berlin studios. The album was crowdfunded and made available exclusively in the Baltics late 2023, released for worldwide streaming on March 22, 2024. The album has received the Annual Latvian Music Records Award for “Best Jazz Album” and nominated “Album of the Year” with Rudzinskis named Top 3 Soloist by the Latvian National Radio.

Inspired by the mythological “hero's journey” and psychological stages of individuation and resilience through life's challenges, ABYSS takes the listener on a quest for meaning and answers through the abyss of the unknown where music serves as one’s guide and teacher. Described by the local press as "powerful and electric," the album has been praised for its saturated, multi-layered sound, expressive solos and conceptual integrity looking into spiritual jazz and jazz-rock directions.
